The Actors
Eleanor Parker
Eleanor Parker was an outstanding American actress, born on June 26, 1922 in Cedarville, Ohio. Her acting career began in the early 1940s, and she quickly established herself as a versatile actress in Hollywood. Parker received three Oscar nominations over the course of her career for her roles in “Caged” (1950), “Detective Story” (1951) and “Interrupted Melody” (1955).
However, her best-known movie for many fans remains “The Sound of Music” (1965), in which she played the role of Baroness Elsa Schraeder. In this role, Parker embodied the elegant and sophisticated fiancée of Captain Georg von Trapp, played by Christopher Plummer.
