The making of the movie in Salzburg

The location scouting in Salzburg began as early as 1963, and filming began in spring 1964 with well-known actors such as Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer and Elanor Parker. In total, only 6 weeks were scheduled for filming, as transportation and accommodation for the 250 actors, crew members, technicians etc. was extremely expensive. Due to the typical rainy weather in Salzburg, it ended up taking 11 weeks. In addition to the filming locations in Salzburg, locations in the Salzkammergut and neighboring Berchtesgaden were also chosen. Today, these special locations are true places of pilgrimage for The Sound of Music fans and welcome numerous visitors every day.
